What will we do with Genome data?

(The pic above is Oryza Sativa)

Synteny Research

With two complete plant genome draft, how can we use these data to infer other plant species, in a word, comparative studies. Dr Paterson's lab fosters an approach of comparing arabidopsis to cotton, or the one I am doing right now, comparing rice to grass species (economically important crops) like maize, sorghum, barley, etc.

Evolutionary Study

Following a PNAS paper unravelling rice duplication history, I've recently come in and reanalyze rice's genome. I've been doing the following currently:
o Using several different approach to reveal the components of genome
o Using filters to get an information-parsimonius genome model

Other Stuff

A lot of coursework to do, *grin*. A list of courses is here. (.xls)
